From card: "Circular box of birchbark with side overlaid with white, gray and dyed quills, lid with floral design. Made by Jeannette Shawnessee an Chippewa ... [woman] 93 years old. The white and gray-grown quills are natural, the other colors are aniline. The porcupine quills are sewed into holed punched in the birch bark only one stitch being taken with each quill. The quills are softend by being held in the mouth. The edge of the lid and box is bound with split spruce root with a sewing of the same to hold it on."
